I have bought a wireless router in my home so that everybody in the house can access the internet with ease and hassle-free.
After a week, I have noticed that my internet speed went slower than usual, so when I checked the router's status by logging on to http://192.168.1.1 (Linksys default), I have noticed that there are more computers or laptops already been accessing my wireless router. So what I did, I created and placed a password or enabled the password so that it will block the unauthorized computers to access my wireless router and even the internet.
With these, my problem has been solved at no time.
To protect your wireless router and the internet connection, you must enable the password, so that every time the unauthorized computers or laptops will try to connect to your wireless router, they must first log-in using the wireless router's password to access the network and the internet. To do these, follow the simple steps below:
1. Type http://192.168.1.1 on your favorite internet browser

2. By default, the Connection status will be displayed. Most Linksys routers will display all the computers and laptops either using a wired or wireless access.

Note:
- WAN is the network setup given or configured by your Internet Service Provider.
- LAN will display all the computers and laptops using the wired connection (UTP Cables).
- WLAN will display all the computers and laptops using wireless connection (Wi-Fi).
3. Click the Advance Setup

4. Before you can proceed to the Advanced Setup, you will be asked first for the User name and Password. By Linksys default, leave the User name blank and the Password is admin.

5. Once you have accessed your wireless router, Click Wireless
6. Click Wireless Security
7. Set Security Mode to WPA Personal
8. Set WPA Algorithms to TKIP
9. Type your password at the WPA Shared Key textbox
10. By default, set Key Renewal to 3600

11. After setting everything, Click Save Settings then wait for 10seconds to refresh your wireless router.

- Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2) is a certification program created by the Wi-Fi Alliance to indicate compliance with the security protocol created by the Wi-Fi Alliance to secure wireless computer networks.
- Temporal Key Integrity Protocol or TKIP is a security protocol used in the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard.
